Odfjell needed a reliable transport solution for four bound4blue suction sails, shipped from Santander, Spain to Zeebrugge, Belgium, with final destination in Antwerp, where the tanker vessel Bow Olympus was calling port.
Each suction sail measured 22 meters and weighed 52 tons, making the assignment a complex special cargo operation requiring precise planning and secure handling.
With Bow Olympus operating on a tight schedule and a short installation time frame, timely execution was essential. The delivery had to be completed smoothly to ensure optimal installation and to avoid any additional delays in the vessel’s operations.
To meet the requirements, WML Aalborg partnered with DHL Global Forwarding and developed an efficient transport setup including a Ro-Ro solution and special trailers, enabling the four suction sails to be transported in batches from Spain to Belgium and onward to the vessel in Antwerp. In addition to the suction sails, the cargo also included four additional trucks carrying accessory equipment.
With multiple stakeholders involved and time as a critical factor, the project demanded careful coordination and close collaboration throughout. WML Aalborg played an active role from start to finish, maintaining an open dialogue and strong cooperation with both Odfjell and DHL to ensure every step was aligned.
The cargo project was successfully completed in early March 2025, delivered on-time and in-full, supporting the planned installation onboard Bow Olympus.
