WML Copenhagen Secures Part Charter Solution to Deliver a 35.5-Ton Propeller On Time

Case story on how WML Copenhagen transported 35.5 ton propeller

WML Copenhagen was tasked with transporting a 35.5-ton propeller measuring 840 x 840 x 217 cm from Korea to Ferrol, Spain. With the shipping industry still challenged by limited capacity in the wake of COVID-19, traditional sea freight was not a viable option for this type of cargo.

At the same time, meeting the required deadline was critical to avoid delaying installation at the shipyard. The shipment therefore required a tailored solution with full control over both timeline and handling.

To ensure timely delivery, WML Copenhagen arranged a part charter solution. The propeller was loaded on a barge directly from the supplier’s warehouse in Korea and transported to the Port of Masan, South Korea, where the part-chartered vessel was scheduled to call port the following day.

In close collaboration with our agent DSV, we secured the necessary space onboard the vessel and successfully loaded the propeller for departure on June 11, sailing towards Spain.

Three days before arrival in Ferrol, the unloading terms and details changed unexpectedly – creating a new challenge late in the operation and requiring immediate action to prevent disruption.

Thanks to rapid coordination with DSV, the shipping line and the shipyard the vessel was quickly re-routed to the new unloading location, ensuring the shipment stayed on track.

On Thursday, July 15, the propeller was successfully delivered to the shipyard in Ferrol, Spain – supporting the planned installation and avoiding costly delays.
